Service Description

Tried-and-true tools to make a case in a classroom, in a workplace, or even among friends. My name is Pete Lyden, and I am looking forward to teaching a course in Basic Public Speaking this fall at The Peach Pit. In it you will learn tools that will help you get your point across effectively in all kinds of settings - school, social, work - even home! Of course, it’s kind of hard to express what such a class will be like by writing about it, so I’ll be offering a free introductory session Thursday, August 22 at 6 pm at The Peach Pit. We’ll go over a few of the basics, get an overview of what makes a successful speaker, and do a couple of fun hands-on (voices-on?) exercises for a taste of what’s in store (parents and guardians, you are happily encouraged to join in with the scholars). Pizza is included! Interested? I look forward to meeting you, and to getting you started on this rewarding lifelong skill. We are lucky to have Peter Lyden joining our team. His experience covers the four sectors of American civil society, in the for-profit and not-for-profit arenas, government, and journalism. He has worked as a print and broadcast reporter, corporate lobbyist and government affairs professional in the technology and healthcare fields, chief public information executive in a state Cabinet office, radio announcer, and small business owner. The past few years, he's taken that life experience to the classroom as a high school social studies teacher, encouraging the next generation to find their own voices and places in our society where they can be comfortable and confident as he is in front of audiences of all shapes and sizes – - small casual groups of friends and associates, - professional organizations and public meetings, - elected and appointed officials and their staffs, from mayors and councils to state governors and US senators and representatives - and crowds of several thousand people gathered for concerts and community events. "Of all the classes I’ve taught, I can say without a doubt that my students have had the best time, and the most fun, in Public Speaking - certainly more fun than AP US History. I hope to have the privilege of bringing this essential life skill to the most important people in your life as well." - Peter Lyden
